This way, the resulting compouns is more stable at high temperatures compared to aspartame, with a sweetening power of 350 bigger than sugar, from which potassium is eliminated (from acesulfame). It is used in a wide range of products, like acesulfame K or aspartame ( E950 and E951), the quantities added in foods being calculated as equivalent, either by aspartame or aceulsfame K. The new additive, entered the European market in 2003, manages to eliminate some of the inconveniences of both its components, without bringing any particular advantages to the consumers. Until 2005, this additive was not allowed in Romania, being introduced in order to align with European legislation.
