Semisynthetic food additive with thickening and caking (in the making of tablet form products) role, obtained from cellulose. It is a hygroscopic powder, soluble in water. By heating the solution, the additive transforms in a gelatinous sediment.
It is used in the quantities on the recipes in dairy products, cheese, ice cream, fruit and vegetable products, meat, cereals, spices, sauces, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverags, dietetic dishes and food supplements.
